Nadie catches fugitives for a living. Her next one should be easy: a teenage girl named Ellis, wanted for the murder of a famous physicist, a kid with no memory and a strange gemstone called the Inca Rose in her pocket. Nadie tracks her down and grabs her. Then she does the one thing a bounty hunter never does. She lets her go. Now they are driving south through Mexico together, wanted by a secret society called the Hunters, following a stone and a rumor toward Wiñay Marka, the Eternal City, the one place that might explain who Ellis really is. Nadie keeps telling her not to get comfortable: find the truth, then it's over, handcuffs, reward, goodbye. But the road keeps getting longer, the Hunters keep getting closer, and the girl sitting in the passenger seat keeps remembering things nobody should remember. What exactly is Ellis, and why does a stone from a dead empire seem to know her name?
