A bicycle gets stolen on Christmas Eve, and Hiro ends up chasing a girl who grabbed it to catch a purse snatcher. He finds her lying unconscious on the pavement and his bike bent into scrap. So the two of them spend the night together, and only later does he learn she goes to his school. Miyako keeps drifting closer to him. Kei, his childhood friend, watches it happen and can't stand it. Then there's Renji, who keeps running into a shy girl at an abandoned train station. Chihiro reads alone there, and the two of them slowly become friends, close enough to start writing a novel side by side. But her memory resets every thirteen hours. Everything they build, she loses by morning. Renji knows this and still promises to help her finish the book anyway. A photographer lurks around Kei, hunting for the perfect shot. Two strange adults keep appearing, nudging these kids along. Can a promise to write a story mean anything when the person you made it to won't remember it tomorrow?
