Zero Kiryuu vanished from Cross Academy without a word. When he finally walks back through the gates, Yuuki Cross feels the knot in her chest loosen for about a second. Then she looks at him properly. Whatever he did while he was gone has left marks she cannot see, and now strange visions follow him around, pushing him to dig for answers he might not want. He goes to Maria Kurenai, newly awake, hoping she will hand him something solid. She gives him crumbs. Just a hint, a guess about who the real enemy might be. Yuuki starts seeing things too. Awful things, crawling at the edges of her sight, and not knowing why is worse than the visions themselves. Her past is still a locked door. The only person holding the key is Kaname Kuran, the Pureblood who has always been closest to her heart. Meanwhile the Vampire Council sends its people to the academy, and they are not there for a visit. Zero killed a Pureblood. That debt has a price. Kaname steps in to block them, and nobody around him can figure out why he bothers, because saving Zero is only part of it. There is another reason, one he keeps to himself. So what happens when the door finally opens and Yuuki learns where she came from?
