Retsuko swore off real love after the breakup. So she went shopping instead. In VR, her virtual boyfriend texts her compliments, wears adorable outfits, and never once forgets her birthday. The catch is the price tag, and she racks up one huge bill. Then she backs a rental car into a parked van. The van belongs to Hyoudou, a cheetah with a scowl and a business on the side: an underground idol group. He doesn't want insurance money. He wants an accountant. Now Retsuko balances ledgers for girls who perform in basements, and the stress is fuel for her death metal karaoke nights, where she screams into a microphone until her throat burns. Somewhere between the receipts and the stage lights, she starts asking herself a dangerous question. Is a quiet desk and a color-free life really what she wants? Or is something better waiting just past the office door?
