Retsuko clocks in, clocks out, sings death metal at a karaoke bar to keep from screaming. Life's actually okay lately. Gori and Washimi drag her out for drinks, the boss still barks, and the days blur together in that comfortable way. Then the ground shifts under her, twice. At work they hand her a trainee. Anai looks perfect on paper: eager, polite, always the first one in. But when Retsuko starts teaching him, his dedication curdles into something that has the whole office walking on eggshells. She can't complain, exactly. He hasn't done anything. That's the problem. Meanwhile her mother shows up unannounced, suitcase in hand, and announces it's time her daughter got married. Cue a parade of awkward matchmaking dinners with strangers who mostly talk about themselves. Retsuko hangs on to her karaoke mic like a lifeline. Then one day she makes a spur of the moment decision, something completely out of character, and it throws everything up in the air: her job, her friendships, whatever she thought she wanted. So what exactly does a red panda do when the only thing that ever calmed her down stops working?
