At six, Kazuma thought bread was disgusting. Then his sister dragged him into a bakery and shoved a fresh loaf under his nose. One bite and the kid was ruined for life. The shop owner noticed something else too: Kazuma's hands run unnaturally warm, warm enough to make dough rise faster than any oven timer should allow. That little trick is about to matter a lot. France has its baguette. Germany has its rye. Japan, somehow, has nothing worth bragging about. So Kazuma decides to fix that by inventing Yappan, a bread that can stand up to the best in the world. At sixteen he bolts to Tokyo and talks his way into Pantasia, the country's top bakery chain, where the oven gloves come off fast. The place is crawling with bakers who are just as obsessed and twice as ruthless, and the competitions get strange. Very strange. Judges keel over, contestants bake under impossible rules, and everyone wants the same crown. Kazuma has the hands for it. Does he have the nerve to survive the people who want him gone?
