Hodaka runs away from his island home and lands in Tokyo with barely any money. The city won't stop raining. Day after day, week after week, water pours down, and he scrapes by on a sketchy reporting gig for an occult magazine. Then he bumps into Hina, a girl raising her little brother on her own, and after he pulls her away from some men who clearly mean trouble, the two of them just start running together.
