Mito Yamamoto has been passed around like unwanted luggage since she was a kid. Parents gone, relatives sighing, and after middle school they just pushed her out the door. Now the job is gone too. So she wanders through the rain, stumbles into a tiny cafe, knocks over a flowerpot, and slices her finger on the shards while apologizing for the mess. A waiter named Ruka Saotome takes her hand and licks the blood off. Then he gags. Her blood tastes disgusting to him. Humiliated, she runs to a bridge and thinks about ending it. At the last second she changes her mind. Ruka saves her again and drops the truth: he is a vampire. For reasons he will not explain, he cannot feed on any woman. What he needs is a thrall, a human servant and steady meal, and he offers her a deal. A home in his dorm, his affection to sweeten the taste, blood on demand. Small problem. Mito is a girl, and that dorm is for boys. She hides her long hair, binds herself down, enrolls at Hijirigaoka Boys' High School and works the cafe shifts beside Ruka. The plan holds. Barely. Every day the two of them grow closer, and every day the lie gets heavier to carry. How long can she keep Ruka from finding out the one thing that would ruin everything?
