Tooru Honda grew up on her mother's stories about the Chinese zodiac, the kind you beg to hear one more time before bed. Then her mom dies, and the stories stop mattering. She ends up in a tent in the woods, alone, keeping it together one school day at a time. Turns out the woods belong to somebody. The Souma family. They take her in, and for about five minutes it looks like her luck has finally turned. Then Yuki and his cousin Kyou go at each other in the living room, she grabs one of them to pull them apart, and suddenly there is an animal in her arms instead of a boy. Every Souma turns into a zodiac creature when someone of the opposite sex hugs them. That is the family secret, and now it is hers too. So she lives with them: the quiet one, the angry one, the older cousin who seems to know more than he says. There is cooking, school, a lot of yelling, and something warmer growing underneath it all. But a curse like this does not just sit there quietly. How long can a girl with no home of her own keep a secret that turns the people she loves into animals?
