Utawarerumono
A wounded man lies in the woods with no name and no memory of how he got there. Eruruu finds him, and her family takes him in. His face is covered by a mask he cannot remove, and unlike everyone around him, he has no ears or tail. They call him Hakuoro, and for a while he lives quietly in the village, learning the rhythms of a place that is not his. Then the emperor's soldiers come. A rebellion against a tyrant is brewing, and the fighting reaches the village before anyone can stop it. Hakuoro picks up a weapon to protect the people he has come to love, and the quiet life he was given slips further away with every battle. He wins fights he never wanted, and each one pulls him closer to the throne he never asked for. The mask stays on. The memories stay gone. Who was he before Eruruu found him in those woods, and what will the war turn him into before it is over?
