In 19th century France, a vampire noble named Godard finds his wife dead in their home. The local human police? They shrug and look away. So he calls in two detectives from Japan: Tsugaru, who carries a birdcage, and Aya. They take the case, but solving other people's mysteries is easy for them. Their own problems are a different story. Centuries of civilization wiped out most demons. The survivors made a deal with humans, promising never to harm anyone. Society still hates them anyway. Fear, contempt, constant suspicion. That tension boils over into crimes all the time, which is exactly where this trio comes in. Tsugaru and Aya aren't here for charity though. Someone stole Aya's body and Tsugaru's humanity, and they want both back. Alongside Shizuku, they pick apart any puzzle thrown their way, but each of them is chasing something private. Detective work is just a game to them. So when the clues in Godard's case start pointing somewhere darker, who exactly are they hunting: the killer, or the thief they came all this way to find?
