A boy gets sealed inside a parcel and shipped across a land of endless night. That is how Lag Seeing meets Gauche Suede, one of the best couriers in the Amberground, a place where monsters called Gaichuu prowl the dark and only the rich in the capital ever feel sunlight. Gauche is supposed to just deliver him. Instead he talks to him, protects him, and the kid never forgets it. Five years pass. Lag is twelve now, and he signs up with the same courier guild, chasing two things at once: the hero he wants to become, and a mother who vanished without a trace. But the bridges between districts are guarded, the poor rot in the dark below, and the job is not as clean as it looked from the outside. The deeper Lag climbs through the ranks of the hive, the more the Amberground stops being the simple place he grew up believing in. What exactly happened to Gauche? And what is really waiting at the end of those letters?
