Shiro was seconds away from breaking a record that had stood for a hundred years. Then the sky split open. A Hurricane tore the track apart, his car went with it, and he lost his heart somewhere in the wreckage. He should be dead. Instead, a woman named Mikagura pulls him back by swapping the ruined organ for a drive of her own making. It works. It also turns him into a machine part in the eyes of the rulebook, which means the career he almost crowned is gone. No more regular races. No more Goodspeed breathing down his neck. Just a body that runs on an engine and a debt he never agreed to. So he heads out to a colony world where the terraformers have been off the leash for centuries, reshaping the ground and the weather on a whim. The only event left for pilots like him is a rally run off maps a hundred years out of date, against a pack of misfits who got banned for their own reasons. Mikagura only asked him for one thing: win. What she actually wants out of it, she is not saying. And what happens to a man when the thing keeping him alive is the thing he has to risk?
