Twenty years ago a bank job went sideways, and Gasback Gallon Getaway watched his own crew turn on him, guns drawn, ready to keep the loot and bury him with it. One shot saved his life. Vash the Stampede, of all people, the pacifist with a sixty billion double dollar bounty on his head. Now Gasback is out of patience and out of hiding, and the men who betrayed him have grown fat and respectable: businessmen, politicians, pillars of the community. A mysterious woman named Amelia Ann McFly latches onto him, and she is clearly after something of her own. Meanwhile Gasback's old partners know exactly who is coming for them, and they are not planning to go quietly. So the man who hates violence has to stand between a vengeful thief and the people who deserve everything he is about to do to them. Whose side is he really on, and what happens when the shooting starts?
