Hana missed a whole year of school because of measles, right before her entrance exams. So when she finally moves in with her cousin Shion and walks into a new classroom at seventeen, everyone around her is a year younger. She keeps that to herself. Timid, easily flustered, she just wants to blend in and not look like the one who fell behind. Then the teacher announces her birthday in front of the whole class. Most people would want to disappear. For Hana it turns into the opposite: three girls start talking to her. Tamate, loud and impossible to ignore. Kanmuri, tiny and just as shy as Hana is. Eiko, pretty and popular, the type who could be friends with anyone. What follows is Hana fumbling her way through lunches, small talk and the constant fear of saying the wrong thing. She has no plan for any of this. She just keeps showing up, and somehow these three keep showing up too. But can a girl who spent a year hiding at home really stop worrying that she is one step behind everyone else?
