Episode 2 · Queen Emeraldas

Queen Emeraldas

A kid named Hiroshi dreams of one thing: his own ship, his own way through the stars. Word gets around that his idol, Tochiro Oyama, built a battleship out of energy crystals on a planet called Daibaran, so Hiroshi goes there to see it for himself. What he finds instead is a firefight. A gang of Afressian soldiers is tearing the place apart, hunting for a woman in a massive vessel called the Queen Emeraldas, and she cuts them down before they can touch him. She is Emeraldas, a pirate who sails alone, and she wants nothing to do with anyone. The Afressians want the whole galaxy under their boot, and she is the one thing standing in their way, though the memory of a man she lost keeps her moving more than any cause does. So when their commander, Eldomain, snatches a group of ordinary people off the street, she flies straight into it. A trap, obviously. She goes anyway. Hiroshi does get his ship in the end, and he does run into her again out there. But why does Emeraldas know Tochiro Oyama's name at all, and what is it about this boy that keeps pulling her back into his path?
