Yako Katsuragi is the star detective every news crew wants a piece of. A high schooler who cracks cases adults gave up on, always standing at the scene, always taking the credit. Nobody questions how she does it. They should. The real work happens behind her, done by the thing that calls itself her assistant. Neuro Nougami is a demon. He has already chewed through every mystery the underworld had to offer, so now he hunts in ours, feeding on the ugly energy people leak when they lie, cheat, and kill. Yako smiles for the cameras while he devours the leftovers. He promised to help her find out what happened to her father, and she needs that answer more than she needs the fame. There is one catch. If humans figure out what he is, everything falls apart. So he stays in the shadows and lets a teenage girl wear the spotlight, and together they take on one case after another to keep his hunger quiet. But every solved crime pulls Yako closer to the truth, and closer to the thing that keeps her alive only because she is useful. When the mystery she actually cares about finally lands in front of her, who will be standing there to solve it?
