Tetsuo Tosu sells toys for a living and reads detective novels for fun. He's the kind of dad who lights up when his daughter Reika comes home from university for lunch. Then he sees the bruises on her face. She waves it off. He doesn't. So he lets himself into her apartment, pokes around, and overhears her boyfriend Nobuto on the phone, calmly promising to kill her. Turns out Reika isn't the first girl he's done this to, and the plan for her is worse than anyone guessed. Then Nobuto walks in on Tetsuo. There's a struggle. Only one of them walks out. Now Tetsuo and his wife have a body to hide, and a very good reason to hide it: Nobuto's father runs the yakuza. The family business, the men who work for it, all of it now points straight at the Tosus, who are supposed to look like an ordinary couple mourning nothing. Tetsuo has read enough crime stories to know how this usually goes. Knowing isn't the same as surviving it. Can a toy store manager and his wife outlast an entire crime family that wants its son back?
