Two men run a business in a city nobody brags about. Nicholas Brown and Worick Arcangelo take the jobs the mob and the cops would rather hand off: beatings, cleanups, killings. Their office is called Benriya, and in Ergastalum, a place thick with cheap thieves and bought officers, that counts as respectability. Then a routine hit goes sideways. The target is a pimp. Among the people marked for death that night is Alex, a prostitute with nowhere left to run, and instead of finishing the job, the Handymen take her in. That should be the strangest part of their week. It is not. Ergastalum used to be a haven for Twilights, people born with powers from a drug nobody talks about openly, and now someone is hunting them down, block by block. A familiar cop hands the pair a new contract: wipe out a gang squatting on the turf of the biggest crime family in town. Easy money, they figure. It turns into something far bigger than a brawl, and the two of them are already in too deep to walk away. The city is shifting under everyone's feet, the old deals are falling apart, and a war is coming that will not ask permission. Can two guys with a small office and a bad reputation really stay neutral when the whole underworld picks a side?
