A clash between two kings once erased a stretch of eastern Japan. Over seven hundred thousand people died in what came to be called the Kagutsu Incident, and both rulers went down with it. Goki Zenjo walked away from that day alive, the right hand of the fallen Blue King. Now he's back at SCEPTER 4, serving under a new sovereign, Reisi Munakata, and every order he takes scrapes against something in him. He can't quite call this man his king. Then Munakata hands him a job: train a raw recruit named Takeru Kusuhara, one on one. The reason is thin, something about the future of the squad, and Zenjo can feel there's more to it than that. Two swordsmen, one old wound, and a young kid who hasn't learned yet what loyalty costs. How far will a fighter go for the good of his king?
