A new school year starts and the class lists go up on the board. Alice and Yoko land in one room. Shinobu, Karen and Aya end up in another. That one sheet of paper splits the group down the middle, and Alice feels it right away, since her best friend is suddenly a hallway away. Aya, who actually wants to study, gets stuck babysitting Karen and Shinobu, two people who treat homework like a rumor. Karen also has a problem with a face and a name: her new homeroom teacher. The woman wants to come across as approachable and keeps missing the mark, while Karen keeps pushing back. Something has to give, and it probably will not happen in a classroom. So the girls try growing up the only way they know how. Alice and Aya dress up like delinquents to look tougher and older, which goes about as well as you would expect. Small disasters, sure, but they keep the five of them tangled together. Will the year put them back in the same room, or are they just stuck learning how to be friends from a distance?
