Gate Keepers
Tokyo, 1969. The future is roaring in: neon, machinery, science on every corner, and nobody suspects a thing. Behind all that progress, something else has already moved in. They are called Invaders, and they wear human faces. You could pass one on the street tomorrow and never know. One agency knows. AEGIS fights them in the dark, and its sharpest weapon is a small crew of kids who can tear open Gates into another world and pull out enough raw power to level a block. Shun Ukiya is not one of them. He is a regular high schooler with a widowed mom and a little sister, walking home like any other day, until he sees a pack of Invaders headed straight for his front door. Something inside him snaps open. Energy floods out. He is one of them now, whether he likes it or not, and AEGIS comes calling fast. So does Ruriko, his childhood friend, who has been keeping a very large secret from him. Now he is being pulled into a war he never signed up for, with people who want to train him, study him, maybe use him. Can a kid who just wanted to get home in time for dinner really hold the line against an enemy that could be anyone at all?
