Bo City is gone. The survivors scatter, and Mo Fan's family takes the offer of shelter in Mingzhu City, the capital of magic. He barely has time to unpack before his teacher Tang Yue comes knocking, asking for help with an investigation into the Black Order. He says yes, but he wants something in return: a dark element awakened inside him. So now he is juggling two lives at once. By day he trains with powers he barely understands, learning that his own limits keep moving further out every time he pushes. By night he digs into the Black Order alongside Tang Yue, and whatever they find there is not something a student should be poking at. On top of all that, Mingzhu University is waiting for him, the school every magician in the city would kill to get into. His fire was already strong. His lightning, the kind only one in a thousand can even touch, was stronger. But this dark element is something else entirely, and it is growing faster than he can keep up with. Can a kid from a ruined city really walk into the capital's best school and come out on top, or is he about to find out what the Black Order has been hiding all along?
