In this world a mark on your face says whether you get to be a wizard or get erased. Magic handles everything, dishes, duels, saving the day, and the ones who can't cast a single spark don't get a second chance. Mash Burnedead never got the mark. He lives deep in the woods with his dad, training his arms and balancing a cream puff in one hand, and honestly, he's happy there. Then the authorities find out. No magic, so no future, unless he somehow claws his way to the top and becomes a Divine Visionary, the kind of title nobody can argue with. So this kid who has never held a wand walks into Easton Magic Academy, where the students come from the finest families and can bend reality before breakfast. His classmates summon fire and walk through walls. Mash throws a punch. That's the whole plan, and it keeps working, which drives everyone else up the wall. He just wants to go home and eat pastries with his father, and that's the only thing he's actually fighting for. Can a guy who solves every problem with his fists punch his way to the one seat in the kingdom that even the strongest wizards can't reach?
