Kaoru lives alone in a cramped apartment, far from his family. One evening at the train station he spots a girl in a kimono, clearly lost, and offers to walk her to the address she's clutching. Lucky break: it's right in his neighborhood. Then they get there. Empty lot. Just weeds and a fence. So he brings her home, makes tea, asks if she has anything else. She pulls out an old photo. Two kids. Kaoru stares at it and realizes he's one of them, and the other is Aoi, the childhood friend he hasn't seen in years. She came all the way to Tokyo for him. Because she's his fiancée. Which is a lot to process, but what really hits him is the memory it drags up: the real reason he walked out on the Hanabishi family and never looked back. Now Aoi is here, and she isn't leaving. She wants the life they were promised to each other. His family has other plans. And Kaoru has spent years trying to forget exactly why he can't just say yes. What happens when the past shows up at your door wearing a kimono and refuses to go home?
