Six years ago Shibuya tore itself apart. Riots, panic, a string of killings the papers called New Generation Madness, then an earthquake that flattened the district and somehow left the neighborhoods next door standing. Takuru Miyashiro lost his parents in that mess. He was a kid then. Now he's a third-year student, and the city around him is all fresh concrete and clean glass, like none of it ever happened. Then two bodies turn up, killed in ways nobody wants to describe on the news. Takuru notices something while poking around for the school paper: the dates line up exactly with the first two New Generation murders, six years apart to the day. His clubmate Nono shrugs it off as coincidence. He can't prove a thing. Except the next killing is supposed to land on September 29th. That's today. So Takuru and the newspaper club start digging, chasing a pattern that shouldn't exist in a city that already buried its dead once. They find a crime scene, all right. They just aren't standing outside it. If the dates are the same, does that mean the killer is too?
