A royal friendship droid named S.A.M. has one job: find Prince Kelby. Her best friend. The kingdom of Botica has fallen, the king sits in a cell, and the young heir is out there somewhere, running. So she walks out into the dust and the wreckage to look for him. Then two strangers crash into her path. Casey is a beat-up maintenance bot, obsolete, talkative, maybe not entirely reliable. Philly is a boy who cannot die and drives a Cadillac that turns into a giant robot bull. Thieves, monsters, and Botica's enemies all want a piece of this little crew. Nobody asked them to save a prince. They go anyway. Deserts, strange creatures, worse people. S.A.M. keeps scanning the horizon for the one face she was built to protect, and every mile puts more guns between her and Kelby. When the dust finally settles, will the heir to Botica even want to be found?
