LaRousse City runs on screens and moving walkways, and Satoshi walks right into its famous Battle Tower ready to fight. His partner for the match is a kid named Tooi, who freezes up the second a Pokémon comes near him. Pikachu, of all things, sends him backing into a corner. Four years ago something happened to this boy, and whatever it was, he has not been the same since. So the battle goes nowhere, and Satoshi is left wondering what you even do with a kid who is terrified of the things everyone else laughs and plays with. Then the sky goes strange. A Deoxys, healed up and hunting for something, throws a barrier over the whole city, kills the machines, and starts pulling people out of the streets. One by one they vanish, and nobody can get in or out. Rayquaza drops down out of the ozone layer, and it is not here to talk. This is its territory, and it wants the invader gone, city and bystanders be damned. Satoshi is stuck in the middle with a friend who can barely look at a Pokémon, a legend tearing the place apart overhead, and a city full of people disappearing into thin air. Tooi might be the only one who understands what he is looking at. All he has to do is stop being afraid. Can a kid who cannot stand the sight of Pikachu really be the one who saves everyone?
