Koyomi Araragi is trying to be a normal third-year student, even though he is not one. A vampire attack should have killed him. It didn't. A strange man named Meme Oshino pulled him back to humanity, but some things stayed: wounds close fast, his eyes catch too much, and normal is a stretch. He keeps his head down with help from Tsubasa Hanekawa, the class president, and mostly it works. Then a girl falls down the school stairs. He braces for the impact and catches almost nothing. Hitagi Senjougahara weighs a few kilograms at most. They have shared a classroom for three years without ever speaking, and she clearly wants to keep it that way. He pushes anyway, and she pushes back hard. Her secret is not shyness. Something took her weight, and it has the shape of a giant crab. Araragi knows a guy for this. Oshino might fix her, or he might not, and Senjougahara is not thrilled about being a problem someone else gets to solve. Demons, gods, and other people's curses keep crossing his path now. How many of them can he carry before the vampire leftovers inside him want something back?
