Kakeru Daichi just wanted a cold drink. He grabs a melon soda from the vending machine near his house, takes a shower, cracks the can open and takes a sip. Next thing he knows there's a gorgeous girl standing in his room. He figures he's dreaming, right up until she blasts him in the face with compressed carbon dioxide and snaps him awake. That night two strangers push their way into his house with an explanation that makes even less sense: the girl is an Akikan, a can that turns human. Her name is Melon now. And according to these people, she and Kakeru have been drafted into a fight between steel cans and aluminum cans to settle which material deserves to win. Melon needs CO2 just to breathe, so she is stuck to him whether he likes it or not. Then his rich and very pretty childhood friend Najimi shows up with an aluminum Akikan of her own, and suddenly this is not just a weird science experiment anymore. It is personal. Do Kakeru and Melon actually have to play by the rules of this project, or can they find their own way out?
