Episode 2 · AKB0048

AKB0048

Earth is a wreck after a war that spilled across the planets, so humanity packed up and scattered to new worlds. That should have been the end of it. Then the Deep Galactic Trade Organization decides music is the problem, the thing that stirs people up, and outlaws it everywhere it can reach. Concerts, songs, all of it: gone. So a group called AKB0048 forms, taking the name of a famous idol act from the old days, and they do the one thing nobody is allowed to do. They fly from planet to planet and perform anyway, dodging arrest the whole time. Every few years they hold auditions, and girls from all over, including worlds where music gets you thrown in jail, line up for a shot at inheriting one of the legendary names. Training is brutal. Getting picked is worse. Who actually makes the cut, and what happens to the ones who don't?
