Nangou owes the mob over three million yen, and he has nothing left to bet but his own life. So he sits down at a mahjong table in a back room, tiles clicking, cigarette smoke, and every hand he plays drags him closer to a hole in the ground. Then a kid bursts in. Shigeru Akagi, maybe thirteen, running from the cops, no shoes, no fear. Nangou grabs him, whispers the basic rules, and shoves him into the seat. The gangsters laugh. That lasts about one hand. Akagi plays like he was born holding tiles. He doesn't flinch at death threats. He doesn't even blink. The men who came to collect a debt start to realize they might be the ones in trouble, because this boy doesn't care if he lives or dies, and that makes him impossible to read. Nangou's debt is still on the table, the police are still outside, and Akagi just keeps calling everyone's bluff. So who exactly is this kid, and why does a night in a gambling den feel like the first page of a legend?
