1947, Shinjuku. The war is over, the shelves are empty, and a bowl of rice costs more than most people earn in a day. So they gamble. Mahjong tiles click late into the night in cramped parlors, and for a lot of folks that green table is the only way to keep eating. Tetsuya wanders in from somewhere else, sits down, and quietly cleans everybody out. Nobody knows where he came from. Nobody can beat him. Then he runs into Boushu-san. One game. Maybe less. Whatever Tetsuya thought he was, this man shows him the gap between good and great, and it is enormous. The wanderer who emptied every parlor in the district is suddenly the one sweating over his tiles. Now he has to decide what to do with that humbling. Keep moving and stay a big fish in small ponds, or sit down across from a man who dismantles him and learn the real thing. And when survival itself is on the table, how much of your pride are you willing to lose for one more hand?
