Kyoutarou Kakei has one real pleasure in life: sitting in the Great Library at Shiomi Academy, a place so huge it could give the national library a run for its money, reading whatever he wants. The Library Club is his quiet corner. Then an email arrives, signed by the Shepherd, a ghost students whisper about, the one who shows up when you work hard and grants you a wish. Kyoutarou reads the message twice and runs. At the train station he grabs a second year named Tsugumi Shirasaki and pulls her off the platform right before a car jumps the rails. She doesn't forget it. Tsugumi signs up for the Library Club and drags Kyoutarou into something she calls the Shiomi Happy Project, less a plan than a habit of fixing whatever is wrong with the school. Girls keep joining, one after another, each with her own reason. Which would be fine if the emails stopped. They don't. Whoever the Shepherd is, he has been waiting for Kyoutarou, and every good deed the club pulls off seems to pull the club deeper into his design. Tsugumi saves people because she wants to. Kyoutarou wants to know why the Shepherd saved her. Can you walk away from a wish someone grants you before you ever ask for it?
