Souta Hatate can see the little flags hovering over everyone's heads. A death flag means that person is about to die. He reaches up, yanks it down, and the accident never happens. It's a neat trick, except for the part where he saved himself from a sinking ship and walked away the only survivor. Since then he keeps his distance from people. No friends. No relationships. Nothing that could put someone else in harm's way. Then he transfers schools, pulls down another death flag, and Nanami Knight Bladefield catches him in the act. Most people would call him crazy. She doesn't. She tells him she'll stay by his side no matter what happens next, and she means it. Four girls end up moving into the same dorm as him, and for the first time in years, Souta isn't alone. But the flags keep showing up in places they shouldn't, and the questions keep piling up. Why does he see them at all? What really happened on that ship? And what happens when the one flag he can't reach belongs to the person standing closest to him?
