In Tom Sawyer, you earn Love just by being seen. Spend it on a new face, a ride, a doctor's visit. A little hologram sits in your eyes from childhood, and it paints the whole city for you. Step out of line and the number drops. Everyone stays polite. Then a girl named Berry watches her own Deco glitch out, and suddenly there is a boy standing in the middle of the street who nobody else can see. A prankster called Hack. She is sure he is Phantom Zero, the crook who zeroes out everyone's Love wherever he goes, so she chases him. Bad idea. The chase drags her past the pretty storefronts into the parts of Tom Sawyer that were never meant to load. Turns out Hack is not the only one hiding in the gaps. The city has been keeping a few things from its citizens, and Berry just tripped over the first one. So what happens when the only person who can see the truth is a kid who has spent her whole life chasing a criminal?
