The summer race is over. Sohoku High stands on top after beating Hakone Academy at the Interhigh, and the whole team celebrates a win they earned together. Then the third-years walk away. Kinjou, Makishima, Tadokoro, gone. Half the starting lineup just disappears, and the guy Sakamichi looked up to most, Makishima, is not coming back to ride beside him anymore. Now a new captain and vice-captain, Teshima and Aoyagi, have to hold together what is left and build something that can win again. Sakamichi, Imaizumi and Naruko are no longer the rookies tagging along, they are the ones who have to carry the team. And they are not the only ones rebuilding. Hakone Academy has brought in fresh riders too, all of them hungry to take back the crown, while Midousuji waits at Kyoto Fushimi with that grin and those jerky movements, ready to tear the race apart. Every top school in the country is training for the same finish line. Sohoku wants a second straight title, Hakone wants revenge, and nobody is willing to give an inch of road. Can a team held together by second-years really hold off the entire nation?
