Wise Man's Grandchild
A salaryman dies in modern Japan and wakes up as a baby in a world of magic, with every memory of his old life still intact. Merlin Wolford, a hero who'd rather hide in the woods than be celebrated, takes the kid in and raises him far from anyone. By fifteen Shin can level a forest with a spell. He also can't hold a conversation to save his life. So off to the royal magic academy he goes, where the plan is simple: make friends, learn some manners, act like a normal teenager. That plan dies on day one. The second he walks through the gates, everyone already knows his name, and the gaps in his upbringing start showing in ways that are equal parts funny and alarming. Nobles, jealous rivals, actual villains circling the city: Shin has to figure out which fights are worth picking and which problems can't be solved with a bigger explosion. He's got power to spare and no clue how the world works. What happens when a boy raised by a hermit has to live among people who expect him to be normal?
