In the small town of Engamori, gods, yokai and ordinary people have shared the same streets for centuries, and nobody bats an eye at a spirit running the register or a tengu waiting at the bus stop. There is even a registration service so the supernatural can live as full members of society. Then Buchio, a house cat who has spent twenty years curled up with his human family, suddenly wakes up as a nekomata near the end of his life. Great news, he gets more time. Terrible news, he has no idea why it happened to him, or what the strange new powers flickering inside him are for. Down the road, a schoolgirl named Muu-chan keeps drifting toward Jirou, a crow-like tengu, and he slowly steps into the empty space her late father left behind. Neither of them knows how to say what they actually want, so for a while they just circle each other. A cat who outlived his own lifespan and a girl who lost her dad. In a town like this, family trouble and loneliness do not care whether you are human or not, and the neighbors show up anyway. So what is Buchio turning into, and who decided it was time?
