Aoi Tsubaki can see spirits. She inherited that from her grandfather, who raised her after her mother walked out and taught her how to keep the peace with the ayakashi. He also taught her to cook. When he dies suddenly, she keeps feeding whatever hungry creature crosses her path, if only so none of them decide to snack on a human instead. Then she hands her lunch to a stranger, and the ground drops out from under her. He turns out to be an ogre god, the Master Innkeeper, and he drags her off to the hidden world of the spirits. Her grandfather owed him a hundred million yen. She was the collateral. The deal Oodanna offers is simple: marry him and the debt disappears. She says no. Instead she makes him a counteroffer and starts cooking for her keep at his inn, one bowl at a time, determined to pay off every last yen herself. The ayakashi around her are not sure what to make of a human who refuses to be afraid of them. Can a girl with a ladle really work her way out of a debt that big?
