Hitomi Kanzaki can barely drag herself out of bed. She wants to sleep, to vanish, to stop feeling anything at all. Then a voice answers that wish. Lord Folken pulls her off Earth and drops her on Gaea, where strangers bow and call her the Wing Goddess, the one who can wake the legendary Dragon Armor, Escaflowne. She never asked for any of it. On Gaea she runs into King Van, who lost his entire clan, the White Dragons, and now lives only to cut down the Black Dragons who burned his home. He sleeps with a sword. He trusts nobody. And the girl everyone treats as a savior just wants to close her eyes again. The two of them are supposed to decide what happens to this whole planet. Folken clearly has plans of his own for her, and the armor answers to her and no one else. But can someone who came here to disappear really choose between saving a world and ending it?
