Ryu comes back to the place where Gouken once trained him, just to stand in front of his teacher's grave. Quiet. Respectful. But the memories that flood in are anything but peaceful. Over and over he sees the same thing: the man who killed his master. It never leaves him. So he hits the road again, chasing the only thing that might save him. He has to get stronger, sharper, faster, and he has to cut the Dark Hadou out of his blood before it swallows him whole. Every fight is practice. Every practice is a step closer to losing himself. Then comes the news he has probably been waiting for without ever admitting it. Gouki is out there, and there is only one way this ends. Ryu's new strength will be tested against the monster who took everything from him. But if the Dark Hadou is what gives him the power to win, can he beat Akuma without becoming him?
