A nine year winning streak just died. Some nobody school knocked Oudou Academy off the throne, and now every ping pong team in Japan smells blood in the water. At Suzumegahara Middle, the girls have plenty of talent and nothing to show for it: Hanabi hits fast, Hokuto reads the ball before it leaves the paddle, Agari has a backhand that scares people, Mune plays mean, and captain Kiruka simply does not let anything past her. City tournaments are where their story always ends. Then Koyori Tsumujikaze walks through the door. Transfer student, paddle in hand, absolutely obsessed with the game, and good enough that the team pecking order shifts within days. What she really brings is louder than any smash: she loves ping pong so much it becomes contagious, and one by one the others start playing like they actually believe they can win. Now they are chasing nationals, the biggest stage there is, with five strong players and one new fire burning under all of them. Can a small town team really go all the way, or is the gap between them and the giants still too wide?
