Episode 2 · Onyankopon

Onyankopon

A long time ago, Onyankopon looked after everyone from up high. Then an old woman, busy mashing yams, swung her mallet and caught him right in the head. Ever since, he has been too nervous to talk to people face to face. So he stays back and sends his helpers down instead. Now picture a Japanese high school girl with a problem. She is dieting, or pining over some boy, or cramming the night before an exam. Out of nowhere, a messenger shows up with Afrobeat and dancing, and the trouble starts to sort itself out. Strange method. It works. But can a god who flinches every time someone says hello really keep helping kids from a distance? And what happens if he ever has to look one of them in the eye?
