Hotaru is building snow dogs and snow rabbits in the yard, her little dog Pechi bouncing around her, and it is one of those bright winter days where the cold almost feels friendly. Komari is supposed to be walking over for a visit. She looks at the long road, decides to cut through, and that shortcut is going to cost her. Spring shows up and Hotaru wants cookies. Mom gets called away, the bakery is wiped clean, not even a bag of flour left on the shelf. Then Kaede steps in and says fine, we will make them ourselves. Summer brings the last day of vacation and a mountain of unfinished homework. Komari cannot spell her kanji, Renge and Hotaru keep pointing at her mistakes, and she finally gives up and lies down. So the girls start scheming to send her a good dream. Will it work? Autumn, and they are in the woods for berries and fruit when a flying squirrel drops an acorn right on Komari's head. They leave out a little food for it and its babies. Snow, cookies, homework, acorns. The seasons keep turning in this tiny village, and nothing big ever happens. So why does it feel like something is always about to?
