A private eye takes the cases nobody else will touch. Then the sun goes down, and his real job starts: hunting the Nightbreed, the demons crawling through the city after dark. Tatsuhiko Shido works these streets with a government agent named Yayoi, a teenage girl named Riho who somehow ended up as his assistant, and a tiny green imp called Guni. Oh, and Shido is a vampire. He just cannot remember being made into one. That gap in his memory is the whole problem. The only person who can fill it is Cain, the vampire who turned him, and Cain is looking for him too. Not to help. Every Nightbreed Shido puts down keeps him busy while that reunion gets closer, and the people around him are the ones standing in the way. So what happens when the monster you are hunting is the only one who knows who you really are?
