Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion

ActionSci-FiSuspense2011GoHandsRating 7,318+HD

Rune Balot is crying. Shell's assassin Boiled has torn through everything, and Oeufcoque is bleeding out somewhere beside her. Then headlights flood the wreckage: Doctor Easter rolls up in the Humpty Dumpty, an armored welfare vehicle built to pull people out of exactly this kind of mess. She gets them inside. She gets them moving. The destination is Paradise, the place where Scramble 09 was born and where Boiled got his second life. Every buried secret of Mardock City sits in those labs. What Balot learns there about her own past, and about the people who made her, changes what she wants. Now she has a choice to make, and it is not a clean one: take her shot at the justice she has been chasing, or let it go and live quietly inside Paradise. Can she even tell which one she is really choosing?
