Nike never asked to be a hero. He just wants a quiet life, and instead he gets stuck with a staff, a girl named Kukuri, and a world that keeps falling apart around him. Kukuri, meanwhile, is the one doing the actual saving. Her plan is simple enough on paper: track down the monsters scattered across every territory and win them over, one at a time, until an army stands behind her. Turning a monster into a friend, though, involves a lot more arguing and running than anyone warned her about. Here is the twist. While Kukuri is out there recruiting beasts, Nike has his own assignment, and it does not involve fighting at all. The Four Kings of Nature have to acknowledge him before he can claim their swords: wind, water, earth, fire. Four blades, four kings, and a guy who would rather be anywhere else. Evil King Giri is not sitting still either, and the clock is not exactly on their side. So the two of them stumble from one strange town to the next, meeting eccentric characters and creatures nobody could have predicted, each stop bringing them closer to a showdown they are not ready for. Can two kids like this really grow into a hero and a heroine, or is the whole title just wishful thinking?
