Rin can't sit still. She's the kind of kid who climbs trees before breakfast and sings while she does it, and her songs do impossible things: close wounds, push the wind around. Her family made her promise to keep it quiet. Then she heals an injured knight named Henry in the open, soldiers see the whole thing, and by nightfall her village is burning. She grabs her inventor brother Al and they run for the capital with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Finis has the same gift, but she lives behind palace walls and performs for people she can't stand. She's in love with Henry too. Prince Lood wants her for himself, and he's the sort who takes what he wants, so the two of them meet in secret. War is creeping closer, and Finis keeps having the same nightmare: Lood putting her on a battlefield and telling her to sing. Rin is walking toward the capital. Finis is trapped inside it. Neither one knows the other exists yet, and the road between them is crawling with people who would love to get their hands on a girl who can heal with her voice. When they finally stand in the same room, will they even recognize each other?
