Ann Halford is fifteen, and she can do things with sugar that most grown confectioners only dream about. Her mother wore the title of Silver Sugar Master before her, and Ann intends to wear it too. So she packs her tools and leaves for Lewiston, where the Royal Candy Fair hands out the royal medal once a year. One catch: the road there is no place for a girl alone. So she buys a fairy.
